NEV BROOKS'S CD REVIEW ON ÜBER RÖCK

Do you know, at the mo' I'm listening to so many different styles of music that sometimes I lose track of why I got involved in music in the first place.  And, believe it or not it was for a love of Motorhead, and more to the point, for all things metal!!!! Difficult to believe nowadays I guess.  So to get a metal LP in my latest bunch of releases to review actually made for a welcome change, let's just hope it's not a disappointment then.

Pereira is in fact Conrad Pereira, a multi instrumentalist who apparently got fed up with band politics, went and built his own studio and put down all his ideas into the 'Matter of Perspective' LP which currently spinning away on my CD player. Worryingly the blurb tells me as a kid he first broke out after hearing Rob Halford sing (Broke out from where, the closet? The people who write these press releases really need to think about what they are saying). Influences are listed as alternative, acid jazz, ethnic, dubstep, rap core, symphonique and even prog. If an LP was to sound like all those things it would be the most discordant mess ever committed to vinyl, Lou Reed's 'Metal Machine Music' anyone?

So what is it like? Imagine a cross between, Korn, Mr Bungle, Faith No More, Down, the slightest hint of Pantera with a touch of Warrior Soul all thrown in and you pretty much have it.

But there is another primary influence flowing throughout namely Jane's Addiction circa 'Nothing's Shocking' especially on 'Live And Let Live' and 'Loco', and the more I listen into 'Memory Lapse Of Reason', 'Regret' and 'Spacetown', the more I think I've probably found the strongest tracks on the LP.

In other words, this is a heady mix of nu or alternative metal (old school style) that doesn't come across as confused as all the previously stated influences would make it to be, as such 'A Matter Of Perspective' knows what it likes and more to the point knows what its potential audience likes.

This is a cracking LP, experimental yes, alternative yes, metal yes, but why list all the other stuff is beyond me, buy this on CD or download it and enjoy.
